Lexapro is used for the treatment of depressions and mood changes

Lexapro is an antidepressant medicine that is used for the treatment of depressions and mood changes. Belonging to a group of medicines called Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, the drug works on the chemicals in the brain that causes the mood changes.

Always keep a tab on the prescriptions and do not deviate from it. Never take Lexapro for longer durations and also do not take large amounts as it can only increase the risk of side effects. Moreover, do not stop the drug in the middle of a course if you really want good results.

Before Lexapro is given for your conditions, discuss with your physician about all your health related conditions. You have to inform him if you have any problems of the liver or kidney, epilepsy, history of drug abuse and bipolar disorder.

Pregnant women and those who think of getting pregnant soon should avoid taking Lexapro as the drug is known to cause serious harm to the foetus. Moreover, breast-feeding women should give up feeding while on Lexapro medication as the drug is traced in breast milk and may cause harm to the new born.

Lexapro is not prescribed if you are using any Monoamine Oxidase Inhibitor. Moreover, if you were on any MAOI medication, you should wait at least 2 weeks after stopping I for starting a dosage of Lexapro.

When taking Lexapro, always be in constant contact with the doctor for at least the first few months as the drug may induce thoughts of suicide. Avoid alcohol also while you are using Lexapro medicine.
